Prehistory Alive Worldwide

Prehistory Alive Worldwide is established by two girls with a passion for prehistory. Our goal is to share our passion, knowledge and bring people together with joy! We do this though education, communication, recreation and reliving the prehistory by offering living history, workshops, lessons, sales and more. We do not limit ourselves by staying in the Netherlands, but expand abroad as well. We work together with other groups, craftsmen and museums at home and abroad. Together we can expend and spread knowledge about prehistory!

I was very fortunate today, for diederik invited me over at his gorgeous land to teach me how to make my own (mesolithic) bow!

Unfortunately i had some car trouble, and i had to leave early for i had to work in the afternoon, so i didn't have much time to work on it.

But slowly (veeeryyy slowly) it's getting somewhere! I took it home to work on it some more, and soon we will meet again to continue the lessons. The wood is great and from the elm tree, which is the wood from the bows that has been found in mesolithic times.
So i really don't want to screw this up.. πŸ˜†

But already quite proud of my progressπŸ’ͺ

This morning Diederik and i had a second video shoot for the film that will be displayed in Batavialand, produced by GadoGado filmproductions.

It was mostly about micro and small movement recordings this time πŸ‘£. eyes, hands, feet, materials and bow and arrow were all recorded piece by piece.

Whilst i'm not unfamiliar with bow and arrow and am able to shoot.. sort of..allright, i still have huuuuge trouble with a 'floating arrow' when i haven't done it in a while. Especially if the bow is too heavy for me. So i made a total fool of myself and dropped it like 4 times while putting it on the string.🀣 I could see and feel the facepalms and 'dear god...' from the filmmakers and diederik who were right there waiting for me to make the right movement. πŸ™ˆ

So yeah. I felt like a real jackass.πŸ’©

But hey, you can't win them all!

Another productive day on the island!

I got some help from Kees, one of the landlords, and we managed to cut away the fence where i want an entrance. And look at it!!! πŸ’•πŸ’•

He also had this great machine to loosen the ground, and while he did that, i cleaned up the rest of the place. Afterwards i put back some grass, so the blackberries and other plants might just stay behind.

Overall a good day πŸ’ͺ

Yesterday i had a video shoot together with Diederik and Frank for a museum display.

Great fun, for i played the role of the girl 'michelle' who lived 5000 years ago in flevoland. Diederik played the 'swifterbant-man' from 700 years later and frank was our background guy!

During our last shoot in the woods, i had to shoot bow and arrow in a tight path between blackberry bushes. Whilst i was on the ground, i started feeling weird 'bites' on my knees and feet. πŸ‘£ First i thought i stepped in nettle, but the bites got more heavy and really started to hurt. When i looked down, i saw all these red ants walking over my legs and feet and i started to do a weird 'get off me' dance πŸ˜†. They kept biting me so the filming had to be more quick so i could get out of the place. I hasted to get out but of course i got tangled up in some of the blackberries as well πŸ˜‚

Interesting new experience... never had red biting ants before. It's not fun.. it felt like my foot was going to swell up like a balloon.. it didn't, thank god. But it felt weird and tingeling for quite a while, and when i took a shower, it hurt like hell! Afterwards the feeling went away, so water helps probablyπŸ€™πŸ»

Love doing this kind of work though!! Very curious how the video will turn out. .

So i found this massive amount of handspun wool at the second hand store the other day, and i couldn't resist to take it with me.

It's very roughly spun, and spun without combing the wool. That's how i like it the best though πŸ˜‰

And well.. i finally took the time to see how to put up my table loom, which i have laying around for like... at least 6 years without ever touching it πŸ˜† so great excuse.

I always wanted to spin my own wool and make a skirt out of it, but never took te time. I did make bags from my own wool that i spun and woven before though.
But i don't really mind skipping the first part for now and get right to the weaving process.

I'm not using the loom completely the way it should, but rather do it 'my own way' and a bit more 'prehistoric'. One day i would love to built a big prehistoric loom to weave on that.

For now... let's see how this will turn out. I might just make a cloak. But i'm pretty determent to go for the bronze age skirt ;).

I totally hate to set up the loom though.. takes soooo much time to measure and putting all the threads on the right spot.. been working on this for 5 hours now, and not even halfway there.

Patience... patience...

PAW is officieel!

Whoohoo!!

Primitieve technologie workshop weekend in Amerika
